They received the prizes for best designer and best collection, respectively at the 30th Modafad awards. This acknowledgement, as well as coming with a financial prize, will give them the opportunity to show their designs at the next edition.
The name ModaFad, the platform for emerging fashion, evokes a long list of adjectives: risk, talent, investigation, independence, youth,… all of which define an initiative designed to serve as an international launch pad for emerging designers. The organisation behind it is the Fad image and fashion association, which aims to transform Barcelona into the most seductive European city and to promote young values of experimental fashion, and the city’s interdisciplinary, avant-garde nature. A clear, daring objective, which they achieve thanks to the activities they carry out in collaboration with designers and entrepreneurs, design schools and young designers. One of its best-known activities is Modafad, which usually goes hand in hand with another renowned event organised in the city, 080 Barcelona Fashion.
With 30 editions under its belt it is always on the lookout for risky venues and settings. This time, it jumped on the wave of South Africa’s football World Cup hold the meeting under the banner Football Fashion Fever. A total of 32 students presented their graduation projects previously selected by the competition jury from all the candidates at the BAU, ICM, Escola de la Dona, Elisava, Fdmoda, Guerrero, Idep, Llotja, IED Barcelona and IED Madrid schools.
The designers presented their collections in the central aisle of the Boqueria market, which was decked out with football motifs courtesy of graphic designer Chuso Orti. The finishing touch to the fashion show was provided by artist Luis Iglesias with his collection “Corrientes marinas” inspired by the fisherman’s town. The festival ended at the Palau de la Virreina, where the names of the winners of the ModaFad prizes were announced and the World Cup Final was screened.
